Backyard Discovery: Oro di Oliva
Oro is one of those places that I've always wanted to walk into but never found the time. Today, I can check it off my list. For those of you that know me, I go three places: Milwaukee, Chicago and the I-94 Oasis rest stop. That's why a trip out to Wauwatosa can seem like a hike.....but it's not. Oro is located in the Tosa Village and a straight shot over on State Street from downtown. They sell only two things, really. Tank after large tank of olive oil and balsamic with names like Herbs d'Provence and Sicilian Lemon. And all are available to taste. Drinking a tablespoon of olive oil or more is an interesting experience. The richness is almost intoxicating, but it's not thick or greasy like it would seem. On my way out I spotted their walnut oil (the possibility wheel started turning). But that will have to wait for another day. MyFitnessPal was already confused enough.

Oh man, this sounds awesome. I'll have to check it out sometime if I ever get myself to Tosa. For me, if it's not on 43 between Milwaukee and Port Washington, I'm not going unless I have a lot of motivation. I see you listed one in Whitefish Bay, though. That counts!
ReplyDeleteI love this place! But even though I live not far from here, I never think about going. Unless, of course I'm visiting their neighbor, Le Reve ;-)
ReplyDeleteI purchased their walnut oil a couple months ago, but haven't opened it yet. I need to get on that! Thanks for the reminder. Between groupon and living social, my cupboard is stocked with oils and vinegars from Oro di Oliva.
ReplyDeleteoooh their 18 yr balsamic vinegar is my favorite.

their white peach balsamic is heavenly. we went through a 750 bottle this summer using it mostly on strawberries. YUM
ReplyDeletethe wfb location also has truffle salt.
I used to work next door at Le Reve, but never noticed Oro (employees use the back alley so I never noticed the shops that weren't directly across the street). However, I had dinner at Le Reve last night and noticed Oro next door and loved how unique the inside looked! I would love to try out some flavored balsamic vinegars with some basil and fresh mozzarella, like summer in a sandwich!
