Really Into: Air Plants

I popped into the Anaba Tea Room and Garden Store and fell in love with these little air plants. And they were only $1.50 each. They just need a good soak of water once a week and some indirect light. Even horticulturally challenged people like myself might be able to handle this one.

Here is a great hanging vase from mudpuppy for displaying your airplants. I have a similar glass vase hanging in my kitchen that would be perfect for this. I just remember to take them out and water them.

Cheap Thrills: Backyard produce

Our backyard garden is packed with all sorts of stuff! The lettuce is really good, and it only cost a quarter for all those seeds we planted. The jalepenos and tomatoes are on their way, but aren't quite ready yet. Can't wait to use all that mint for Mojitos this summer! I don't know why I was paying for $4 for herbs at the grocery store, when they're so easy to grow. Silly me.

The Backyard garden

Our garden is doing quite well with all the morning rain we have been getting. Matt built this raised garden bed a couple weeks ago (based on the plans here). So far, there are strawberries, jalapenos, dill, basil, mint (hello mojitos!), green leaf lettuce, cucumbers, artichokes, carrots, green beans, spinach and rosemary. A little bit everything, so we'll what grows the best. I'm going to plant some moss this weekend around the base to help out with the drainage/leakage issue. And to spruce it up a bit.

I want: an indoor lemon tree

Has anyone ever grown one of these before? I have found a lot of articles online saying that it's "not that hard". I would love to have one in my dining room to help brighten the midwinter dreariness. Then I could have fresh lemon slices in my ice water, give lemons as hostess gifts, and then in the summer, put it out in our back patio. I hope they're not hard to grow, because I have already made a lot of plans revolving around this little tree.
