It's Friday!

Although it might rain all day (my new backyard sod is so excited), I'm still so thankful it's spring. My spring fever kicks in right on cue. I've been looking at this yellow rose photo above for the past few days and think it's flat out beautiful. The color and composition is just lovely -- but what roses aren't lovely? However yellow rose are, in fact, my favorite (HEADS UP, HUSBAND).

Tilt Shift

1., 2., 3.

I have been a little obsessed with tilt shift photography lately. It reminds me a little of the Mr. Roger's Neighborhood intro. Remember that? Well, I have a feeling tilt shift it will turn into the new hipstamatic and be overused on every occasion, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Heat Wave

Please, someone open up the fire hydrant at the end of the block (I'd rather not get the $1000 fine myself). The heat wave blazin' through the midwest has made graduate finals week a real blast. 105 degree weather when I'm studying? Is this seriously happening? I'll be back next week with some real posts. In the meantime, I thought these Peter Stackpole photos from a 1953 Life magazine really captured the mood. The hot pavement, people crammed together, and the explosion of a high pressured oasis. Quite striking. And then I like to imagine them listening to Martha Reeve and the Vandellas - Heat Wave. Quite beautiful.

It's Veterans Day

In honor of Veterans Day, I'm sharing my friend CJ Foeckler's Vet photos he took in the Zablocki VA library in September. They were used to promote the Veterans Day parade that occurred last weekend. They've also been making a few high profile appearances. But, bottom line, I think they capture what this day is all about.

Photography by Patrick Cline: Horses

These photos simply take my breath away--the contrast between rustic and abstract gets me every time. I would love to have one of these white-matted and simply framed hanging above the sofa or in the office. Patrick Cline is probably better known for his work in Domino magazine and now Lonny magazine than his personal photography. He sells the 16x20 giclee prints out of the Lonny etsy shop for a hefty $250 each.

Backyard discovery: Front Room Photography

I stopped in to scope out Front Room Photography today. It's a really nice space, one of those old Bayview buildings with a tin ceiling and crown molding. They had large canvas photos over the exposed brick wall and nice leather lounge furniture off to the side. I had come to talk about wedding photography (I was a little apprehensive-I was afraid they would be too expensive). They were a little expensive, but not as bad as I thought. I think I can make out only spending $3000 for a wedding day. Thank God! I got a really good feeling about them; very down to earth, modern yet comfortable. It's so great to have wonderful and creative people in Milwaukee. I was worried I'd have to search Chicago.

Check out one of my favorite photos:

I really like that it's not just wedding photography.

The buzz on NPR and NY Times (see article here) is that I should really be disclosing stuff that "I Like". So, for the record, I'm not getting free photos from Front Room. I WISH!
